The Augusta-Columbia Windsurfing
Association (ACWA) is hosting Roger Jackson's
traveling Sailworks and Starboard demo "show" at
an event we're calling the ACWA Spring Windsurfer's
Picnic on March 12th on Lake Murray, near Columbia,
SC, at Pine Island Recreation Area. EVERYONE
IS INVITED! (About a 3 hour drive from Atlanta.)
Gathering time beginning about 11:00am.
We're
doing a hot cook-out lunch (for a minimal cost)
and whatever the wind, if there is any, will
allow. Roger will do a "rigging and tips clinic" at
the very least. Roger teaches first-times and
near-beginners regularly on these events, but
considering the cool water at that time, anyone
desiring instruction on water will have to have
significant wetwear. More details will follow
in next 2-3 weeks.

From Augusta: Take I-20 E to I-26W (exit 64B) towards Spartanburg. Go
to
Exit #102A - SC-60W / LAKE MURRAY BLVD-WEST (toward IRMO)
Travel 3.5 miles
Turn RIGHT onto SC-6/ N LAKE DR
Travel 0.7 miles
Turn LEFT onto RIVER ROAD (at CITGO GAS STATION)
Travel 1.6 miles
Turn LEFT onto PINE ISLAND ROAD
Enter GATES
Cross the CAUSEWAY
If there is a guard present, ask for Eddie Magic at Shelter 9a-b. The shelter
is located on the first street to the right on the island. You
will see
it by the beach. If there is no guard, proceed to the shelter,
you will see a green ford ranger pickup near the shelter.
From Columbia (via Bush River Rd.): Take I-26 to Colonial Life Blvd. Take Colonial
Life Blvd. to Bush River Rd. intersection. Turn left onto Bush River
Road. Take Bush River Road to intersection with St. Andrews Rd (approx.
3 miles). Turn left on St. Andrews Rd. Cross over Railroad Tracks, proceed
to Old Bush River Rd intersection (just past the BiLo grocery store).
Take a left onto Old Bush River Rd. At the intersection where you would
turn left to go over the dam, stay straight and proceed on North Lake Dr.
toward Ballentine. Just before the Citgo Gas Station, take a left on River
Road. Take River Road almost until the end, where you will see the sign
for Pine Island on your left.Turn left, enter the
gates, and cross the causeway onto Pine Island.
From
Newberry (via 176) : Take I-26. Bear right
off I-26 at the "176, Ballentine,
Irmo" exit.
Proceed for 0.5 of a mile on "176 East" to
Bickley Road.
Turn right on Bickley Road and continue
for 1.1 miles. Cross the railroad
tracks and turn left at the light on to "Highway
76". Go for 0.1
of a
mile and turn right at the convenience store and continute for 1.4 miles until
you approach a "Dead End" sign at the entrance to Pine Island Club. Turn
left, enter the gates, and cross the causeway onto Pine Island.
Alternate routes:
From Charleston: take Interstate 26W. From Asheville/Newberry: take Interstate
26E
